2013 New York Jets Betting Odds – QB job up for Grabs Still in NY

So far, in camp Mark Sanchez and rookie Geno Smith are going at it for the QB job for New York Jets hasn’t really heated into a legitimate battle. Let’s take a look at ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter had to say Wednesday morning on “SportsCenter.”

2013 New York Jets“Here’s what I’m told: That Mark Sanchez has never been as impressive as he’s been the last month and or so,” Schefter said. “He has really taken this battle and seized control of it.

“Now, there are people in the Jets organization who want Geno Smith to start, and, at some point, should Sanchez falter or struggle at all, the Jets will not hesitate to turn to Geno Smith. But right now, Mark Sanchez is the starting quarterback in New York.

“He’s taken the first-team reps with the starting offense exclusively. He has made an impression, he’s come back and rededicated himself, he’s learned the Marty Mornhinweg offense, and he has looked in command the last few weeks.”

Schefter tossed in the caveat that we all need to take things with a grain of salt when it comes to a quarterback who is impressive during OTAs, while working padless and sans a pass rush, but as things stand right now, it looks like Sanchez is in the driver’s seat as we head toward training camp.
