Declaration Of War was bred in Kentucky, but races primarily in Europe and he won the Grade-1 Juddmonte International in York, England in August. He has never raced in the United States, nor has he ever raced on dirt, so it’ll be interesting to see what horse betting players think of this four-year-old colt.

Flat Out is making his third appearance in the Classic, posting a fifth in 2011 and a third last year. The seven-year-old has two wins in seven starts in 2013 (the Grade-3 Westchester in April and the Grade-2 Suburban Handicap in July), and he was third in the Grade-1 Jockey Club Gold Cup last month.

Fort Larned has won twice in five starts this year since winning last year’s Classic, taking the Grade-1 Stephen Foster Handicap in June and the non-graded Homecoming Classic in September. However, he has also finished fifth or worse in his other three starts, which may scare some off this five-year-old defending champion.

Game On Dude should be considered the early horse betting favorite, thanks to six straight wins after finishing seventh in the 2012 Classic. Three have come in Grade-1 races, two Grade-2 races and once in a Grade-3 event, and three were in handicap races, so this six-year-old has been successful in a variety of ways. He could bounce back in a big way on Saturday.

Last Gunfighter stumbled in his biggest race to date, finishing fifth in the Jockey Club Gold Cup, and he’ll probably be a horse betting longshot on Saturday. This four-year-old may need a little more seasoning before he can win a top-tier race, but the talent is there for Last Gunfighter.

Moreno has been able to keep pace in graded-stakes events, finishing no lower than third in four straight, including a victory in the Grade-2 Dwyer in July. He has two runner-up finishes to Will Take Charge in his last two starts and this three-year-old could shake things up in the Classic.

Mucho Macho Man should have moved up the ranks after winning the Grade-1 Awesome Again last month, and he finished second to Fort Larned in the Classic last year. This five-year-old finished third, sixth and seventh in the Triple Crown races back in 2011 and he has been getting better each race in 2013. Watch out for Mucho Macho Man. $150 Sign Up Bonus Check it out Click here.

Palace Malice has been excellent since a 12th at the Kentucky Derby, winning the Belmont Stakes and the Grade-2 Jim Dandy, and he also finished fourth at the Grade-1 Travers and second in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. A win on Saturday would be the cherry on top of a great year for this three-year-old.

Paynter didn’t make his debut until June, winning an allowance race and has since finished second in two graded-stakes races, including to Mucho Macho Man in the Awesome Again (which is, coincidentally, named after the 1998 winner of the Classic and a horse that also sired Paynter as well as Game On Dude). He finished second in last year’s Belmont, so this four-year-old could offer value.

Planteur comes from Ireland, and like Declaration Of War, he has never run on dirt or in the United States. This means he’ll be a horse betting longshot, especially coming off a 12th in the Grade-2 Prix Dollar in Paris. Only once has a thoroughbred from outside the United States won the Classic: Argentina’s Invasor in 2006.

Ron The Greek won the Jockey Club Gold Cup in his most recent outing, and he has finished fourth or better in his last eight starts, beginning with last year’s Classic. All but one of those races were graded-stakes events, so he is used to raising his game.

Will Take Charge was also a winner in his last start, taking the Grade-1 Pennsylvania Derby last month, which followed a win in the Travers and a second in the Jim Dandy. This three-year-old also finished sixth, seventh and eighth in the Triple Crown races, and he is another horse which could offer some horse betting value.
