Ferguson Scores Knockout Win In Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale

All eyes were on the Ultimate Fighting Championships for the finale of the Ultimate Fighter season 13 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the winner of the Team Lesnar vs. Team Dos Santos battle crowned ahead of UFC 131. The season focused on the welterweight division in hopes that the promotion would be able to find a credible challanger to UFC champion Georges St. Pierre’s title run, and they may have found a solid online sports betting prospect in Tony Ferguson, who needed just 3:54 to earn the title of Ultimate Fighter season 13 champion.

tony-ferguson-vs-ramsey-nijemFerguson paved his way to the finale with a variety of different wins, taking down Javier Torres via submission two matches before taking down Chuck O’Neil with a third-round TKO. That aggression carried over for the former boxer in the finale, as he knocked out fellow finalist Ramsey Nijem in less than for minutes to win the season. Ferguson was awarded with the Knockout of the Night honors for his victory, and put himself on the map as a potential contender down the pay per head line. With a professional record that now stands at 11-2 there is no doubt that Ferguson is on the right track, but it will probably take some time before he gets his shot as he must first work his way up the ladder by paying his dues.

While everyone was looking forward to the main event matchup to determine the season winner, the most highly anticipated contest featured a couple of lightweights in Clay Guida and Anthony Pettis. Pettis was the sports betting bonus favorite to take the match as he continued his ascension up the ranks as the WEC Lightweight champion now competing in the UFC, but it was Guida that scored the decision with a unanimous vote from the judges. Guida controlled the fight both standing and on the floor in a stronger performance than most would have projected, and has now served notice at the lightweight level.

The final two contests were a solid conclusion to a night that started with a couple of fighters from the series throwing down as O’Neil took down Chris Cope by unanimous decision in the opening round before Kyle Kingsbury did the same to Fabio Maldonado. The only challenge to Ferguson for Knockout of the Night honors was Ed Herman, who needed just 48 seconds to lay Tim Credeur on his back. With UFC 131 around the corner this Belmont Stakes betting weekend there is a ton of MMA action to look forward to, but fans are still talking about how impressive the TUF finale was. Guida has changed the perspective in the UFC lightweight division, while the future is now uncertain for Pettis, and a new contender has emerged in the welterweight division in the form of the Ultimate Fighter season 13 winner Ferguson.
