Free MLB Picks – Philadelphia at Cincinnati Monday, April 15

Reds Cueto misses time? Right-hander Johnny Cueto left his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the middle of the fifth inning due to a strained right triceps. Cueto, you may remember, also had some issues at the very end of 2012, as he left Game 1 of the NLDS against the San Francisco Giants with an oblique strain that cost him the rest of the postseason.

MLB PicksWhile the Reds announced that Cueto came out for precautionary reasons, per the Enquirer’s John Fay, the 19-game winner will be re-evaluated Sunday to determine the extent of the injury and whether he’ll have to miss a start or perhaps go on the DL.

Should Cueto need some time to recover, the Reds would most likely bring up Tony Cingrani, a left-handed starter who is one of the club’s top prospects. The 23-year-old Cingrani made his big league debut late last year, pitching out of the bullpen, and he’s gotten off to a fantastic start at Triple-A, writes C. Trent Rosecrans: In his first two outings, Cingrani has allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out 21 in 12.1 innings.

Cingrani is scheduled to pitch Sunday for the Louisville Bats, but with Cueto’s next turn due to come around on Thursday, April 18, the Reds might take care to limit Cingrani’s workload in order to have him ready to pitch in four days if needed.
