Laurel Park Horse Racing Picks – Barbara Fritchie Stakes My Wandy’s Girl Claims First Win On Saturday

Sports betting players focused on the road to the Kentucky Oaks are going to put their attention to the older fillies this Saturday. The Grade-2 Barbara Fritchie Handicap takes place in Laurel Park Maryland on Saturday, and It’s going to be run over 6 furlongs on a dirt surface. This race is for fillies three years old and up.

Laurel Park Horse Racing PicksThis is a big-sized field, but not one that has a lot of horses with experience in graded-stakes races. The winner this weekend is a horse that has never reached the finish line first, but she has come close. My Wandy’s Girl will grab her first win on Saturday.

When: Saturday, February 15th, post time TBA
Where: Laurel Park, Laurel, MD
Pick: My Wandy’s Girl

Access To Charlie is coming off a third-place run in the non-graded Nellie Morse just after New Year’s Day, and she has finished in the top three in five of her nine starts, including a victory in the non-graded Geisha in November. In her lone graded-stakes start, this six-year-old finished fifth in the Grade 3-Obeah last June.

Baragah finished fourth in the non-graded What A Summer last month, her first start in a race that wasn’t in a maiden or allowance race. This may not bode well for her horse betting odds, but at four years old, she does have young legs.

Centrique has a ton of experience with 24 starts overall, but only two in graded-stakes events. In those, she ran fourth in the Grade-2 Ruffian Handicap last April and then seventh in the Grade-1 Princess Rooney Handicap in July. At five years old, she could be worth a look, but struggling against higher-level competition isn’t promising.

Flattering Bea came in second in the non-graded Miss Preakness, the fourth start of her career, and she won the non-graded Miss Shenandoah last September. However, she has results of fourth and fifth in her other two starts, so it is tough for horse betting players to get a handle on this four-year-old.

La Verdad has won five races in a row, but they were all either allowance or maiden events. This is a huge chance for this four-year-old to prove she belongs among the elite when it comes to older horses, but a poor result might drop her down the ranks. This is a massive race for La Verdad.

More Than A Cruise has made just two starts in her career, finishing second in the non-graded Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship in December 2001, and then third in an allowance race last June. That isn’t a lot to go off for horse betting players, but this five-year-old has some speed; will she be rusty or will she get a push from the hometown crowd?

My Wandy’s Girl finished second in this race last year to Funny’s Approval, and she has top-three finishes in three of her four starts, although she did finish fifth in the non-graded Garland Of Roses in December. This five-year-old could end up being the horse betting favorite for the players, but she has never won a race, so that may put some off.

Sunlit City finished fifth in her lone start, a maiden race in September 2012, and there probably aren’t high expectations for her on Saturday. If she were to win or even place in the top three this weekend, it would be a major upset for everyone involved.

Villette has two first-place wins and a second in her three career starts, but again, all of those have come in allowance events and it is kind of risky to bet on horses that haven’t run in graded-stakes races. This five-year-old is definitely talented, but how will she fare when running against better competition? We will see on Saturday.

Winning Image rounds out the field after taking the non-graded What A Summer, and she has four wins in 12 starts. However, those have all come in non-graded races and in her two graded-stakes starts, she has finished eighth and ninth. That isn’t encouraging for her odds on Saturday, especially as a seven-year-old.

How It Will Play Out

Due to the length of the race, this will be more of a sprint to the finish line. My Wandy’s Girl has experience in shorter races and she has solid results in graded-stakes events, and even though she hasn’t won a race, that will end on Saturday.
