MLB 2013 Toronto Blue Jays – Will they continue to Struggle into May?

The Toronto Blue Jays were supposed to be World Serie contender from the beginning. Now they might not even make the MLB Playoff in 2013. After winning just 10 of their first 27 MLB Picks games, the Blue Jays are looking up at the true contenders in the American League East early on, trying to find the direction back to a .500 record. Now that Toronto has been struggling they stood out more than most teams because of all of the hype surrounding the team heading in to this year, and the combination of high expectations and below average performance has formed the perfect storm for terrible value. Mediocre pitching, inconsistent hitting, and most importantly an overall lack of discipline are the online betting reasons why the Blue Jays have struggled early on, and there is no reason to think it will get better before it gets worse.

2013 Toronto Blue JaysThey were supposed to be dominated at Pitching Toronto improved the most in the offseason, with the addition of the reigning National League Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey as well as Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle. However, the Blue Jays are just 21st in there starts, and 28th in both combined ERA and WHIP. Dickey been awful 2-4 with a 4.50 ERA, and this has been a major step back from last year’s numbers. Johnson and Buehrle haven’t been any better with a combined ERA of over 6.50, and if this continues then they will have difficult for Toronto to win MLB Baseball Picks games.

The pitching hasn’t been the only sports betting problem, as the Blue Jays’ hitters have the lowest batting average in the majors this season at .228. Colby Rasmus actually leads Toronto with a .253 batting average, and while Edwin Encarnacion has been on fire of late and has nine home runs so far, the team has relied far too heavily on the long ball this year. The loss of leadoff man Jose Reyes has really hurt the team’s consistency on offense, but they need to find a way to start getting more men on base and bringing them home without relying so heavily on the long ball.

One factor that Might help the Blue Jays improve in each areas but has really hurt them so far is their discipline overall. Watching Brett Lawrie and Jose Bautista perform a fist-pumping dance in the dugout after making a routine fly-ball out in the first inning is the perfect example of where this online sports betting team’s focus is, and while part of that is on manager John Gibbons, the team should be mature enough to understand that at this point it really isn’t about having fun. The Blue Jay’s put in a ton of money in a team that was supposed to be one of the top teams in 2013, but until the pitching, hitting, and overall discipline improve dramatically this team isn’t going anywhere, and at this point that is the reality.
