Detroit is fresh off a 3-game MLB Baseball Predictions sweep of the A’s and are now actually 11-2 in their last 13 overall. The Tigers should have no problem keeping their focus, while the Rays have won 5 straight. Detroit has been a team on a mission recently and are 8-2 in their last 10 home games against Tampa Bay.

Get strike one, ask questions later. This has been Porcello's mantra over his last few starts. The Detroit Tigers survived an ugly monthlong stretch and are hitting their stride while they continue an 11-game homestand Thursday with the very first of four games against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Tigers have won 11 of 13 and are coming off a three-game sweep of Oakland, which owns the best record in baseball. Detroit, losers of 20 of 29 before the existing hot spell, will send reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer to the mound in the series opener.

Tampa Bay is buried in the basement of the AL East however it hardly had the look of a last-place club while posting a three-game sweep at the New York Yankees to increase its winning streak to a season-high five games. The Rays fell off the map with a disastrous 1-14 stretch but they have bounced back to win 14 of these last 21. Tampa Bay, which is playing the ultimate leg of an 11-game road trip, split six meetings with the Tigers in 2013, losing two of three in Detroit.

The important thing listed here is that Detroit has the clear edge on the mound with Max Scherzer going against Erik Bedard. Scherzer is 9-3 with a 3.64 ERA and 1.248 WHIP over 17 starts and is coming off back-to-back strong starts where he didn’t allow more than two earned runs. Bedard on another hand is 4-5 with a 4.46 ERA and 1.401 WHIP overall and is available in with a 5.51 ERA over his last 3 and 4.19 in his career against the Tigers.

The Rays are just 9-19 in their last 28 games as a road underdog and 0-5 in their last 5 road games against a team with a winning home record. Detroit is 22-8 in their last 30 home game against a left-handed starter, 6-1 in their last 7 after scoring 5+ runs and 22-5 in Scherzer’s last 27 starts as a home favorite of -151 to -200. MLB Baseball Predictions Take the Tigers!
