MLB Betting – Who will the Yankees Get as next shortstop

Derek Jeter is 38 years of age and his career is coming to an end and he will lead to his induction in baseball’s MLB Betting Hall of Fame. There are few, if any, questions about either of the former. What remains unclear, however, is who will replace Jeter at shortstop, a subject Wallace Matthews discussed earlier this week.

Don’t count these guys out

Eduardo Nunez is the in-house replacement while Jeter works his way back from the disabled list to start this season, but there’s almost zero evidence that he’s equipped to take the reins on a regular basis. Matthews notes that two shortstops that could have helped the Yankees answer this question were traded over the winter in Jose Reyes and Yunel Escobar. Escobar was traded twice.

The free agent market following 2013 is thin, with injury-prone Stephen Drew and Rafael Furcal heading the list with glove-only option in Brendan Ryan also slated to be available. Jhonny Peralta, Clint Barmes and a handful of backup types and journeymen will also be there for the taking.

Trade candidates are difficult to come by, though the Baltimore Orioles, conceivably, could shop J.J. Hardy at some point between now and this time next spring, which would open the position for Manny Machado.

Cleveland could shop Asdrubal Cabrera this summer if they fall out of contention or next offseason — Cabrera’s name hit the rumor mill this past winter — and the Texas Rangers, at some point, will have to make a decision on the future of Elvis Andrus that could include trading him.

The Yankees have a solid farm system that could be used to land Hardy, Cabrera or Andrus, depending on the asking price, but one clear thing is they won’t be able to buy one with free agent dollars anytime soon.  Check back to the site for Updates MLB Betting News this season.
