MMA Odds Ultimate Fighter Season 17 finale – Faber vs Jorgensen

The Ultimate Fighter Season 17 finale is coming from Las Vegas on Saturday night and it should be a great one as Urijah Faber faces Scott Jorgensen in the main event, and Faber is listed as -450 MMA Odds favorite on WagerWeb in the bantamweight bout. Check our current lines.

MMA OddsFaber defeated Ivan Menjivar by submission with a rear-naked choke at UFC 157 in his last fight and had only six weeks to prepare for his hastily-arranged fight with Jorgensen. UFC was left scrambling for a new main event after Demetrious Johnson was forced out of a flyweight title defense against John Moraga on account of injury.

Faber, 33, has gone 5-3 since losing his WEC featherweight belt to Mike Thomas Brown in 2009. “The California Kid” dropped to 135 pounds in 2010, unsuccessfully challenging Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight belt in 2011 before coming up short in a bid for the interim fight against Renan Barao last year. Most recently, Faber finished Menjivar in a rematch of their 2006 showdown.

With an impressive record behind him, Faber feels he has more leverage to command bigger fights and wants to get in the octagon with seven-time UFC headliner Frankie Edgar. Faber would have to move back up to 145 pounds, where he was a champion in the WEC. At 135, Faber may not have that many appealing options outside of another title shot. He’s already beat Eddie Wineland and other contenders, but he hasn’t fought Brad Pickett yet.

Jorgensen, 30, posted five straight wins in the WEC before falling to Cruz in a 2010 title bid. Since that setback, “Young Guns” has posted three wins against two losses, besting Ken Stone and Jeff Curran while stumbling against Barao and Eddie Wineland. Jorgensen was last seen at UFC on Fox 5, where he submitted John Albert with a rear-naked choke on Dec. 8. Bet on Ultimate Fighter Season 17 finale.

Not only do Faber and Jorgensen occupy the same weight class, they also happen to be close friends, former training partners and managed by the same team at MMA Incorporated. Faber played a key role in encouraging Jorgensen to become a mixed martial artist.

Getting past Faber, who is ranked No. 2 among 135-pound fighters, won’t be easy for the underdog because these two are so familiar with one another. There will be a lot of improvising in the cage Saturday night — Jorgensen almost guarantees it.

“Come fight night he will bring his A game, I will bring my A game and we will put on a damn show and make ourselves proud,” said Jorgensen. “I’m going to go in there and through my fists around until one of them hits him. I’ve got my game plan; he’s got his game plan. I’m very bull-headed; he’s very bull-headed.”

Jorgensen is just very tough but often forgets to move his head. He wants to be the one moving forward, to set up his wrestling and make up for his short reach. A bad matchup is an opponent with good takedown defense, footwork and counterpunching. Faber fits that description. That lack of head movement figures to hurt Jorgensen in this fight, because Faber will counter at will with his good hand speed. Jorgensen is a handful on the ground, but no one has ever held Faber on his back through a five-round fight
