MMA Picks – Werdum Goes For Second Win Against Overeem

Those who bet horses were disappointed in the rematch that was the selling point of the Belmont Stakes, as Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom and Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford both came up short. On Saturday, you can expect this rematch to be exciting as Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem takes on Fabricio Werdum in the first round of the heavyweight Grand Prix in Dallas.

Alistair-Overeem-and-Fabricio-Werdum-betting-oddsStrikeforce Betting – Saturday, 10:00 PM ET -Overeem (34-11-0-1) holds not only the Strikeforce belt, but the DREAM heavyweight title as well as the K-1 crown, making him the first man in history to hold titles in MMA and kickboxing at the same time. Overeem’s striking is some of the best in the heavyweight

division, but the Muay Thai artist is also capable of submitting foes as he has 19 wins via that method as well. He has met Werdum before, in the first round of a PRIDE Grand Prix in May 2006 in which Overeem fell victim to a first-round kimura, and you can bet that he has been working on his mat skills for this rematch.

Some UFC betting fans looked at Werdum’s (14-4-1-0) win over Fedor Emelianenko last June as a knock against the legendary Fedor, but Werdum is an accomplished mixed martial artist who may have the best submissions in the game, as far as heavyweights are concerned. He is capable of knocking his opponent out, and he can take a punch as he has been KO’d only once, but Werdum’s strength is on the round, although he says that he has been working on his Muay Thai for this fight. The biggest concern for Werdum may be ring rust, as he hasn’t fought since his upset win over Fedor almost 12 months ago.

Even followers of WWE Aftermath would do well to check this grudge match out, as Overeem is a massive MMA betting favorite at -360, while Werdum comes at +285. The ring rust may not even be a big deal for Werdum, as Overeem has fought just once since Werdum has, and that was in a first-round win over Todd Duffee in December to take the interim DREAM title, and that lasted just 19 seconds.

You know that Werdum isn’t afraid of the big stage and his win over Fedor should have boosted his confidence even more, and that is why he is the play this weekend in Dallas. He can take a punch, while Overeem has been knocked out six times, and Werdum has a big advantage on the mat. Overeem has been overvalued badly by sportsbooks, so take advantage of it and place a sports bet on Fabricio Werdum on Saturday.
