NBA News – Jason Kidd Looking to Take The Brooklyn Nets Coaching Job

Just days after announcing his retirement from the NBA, point guard Jason Kidd is interested in the Brooklyn Nets’ head coaching vacancy. Yahoo! Sports reported this Monday that Nets officials have discussed Kidd as a candidate for the position and is reporting that Kidd is likely to meet with Nets general manager Billy King this week. The 40 year old Kidd, who led the Nets to consecutive NBA Finals in 2002-03, retired last week after 19 seasons in the NBA.

Jason KiddBack in December, the Nets fired head coach Avery Johnson after a disappointing season start and informed that interim head coach P.J. Carlesimo was called to replace Johnson. Carlesimo took a team at 14-14, and compiled 35-19 record and a fourth-place finish in the East, earning home-court advantage for the Nets in the first round of the 2013 NBA Playoffs. Carlesimo was fired on May 5th after losing a first round Eastern Conference series against the Chicago Bulls in 7 games.

Considered one of the best players in recent history, the future Hall-of-Fame point guard has no coaching experience but has strong ties within the Nets organization.

Before signing with the New York Knicks last offseason, Kidd considered re-joining the Nets as Deron Williams’ backup, but despite his talent and commitment with the team, his chances of landing a coaching position still uncertain.

Since firing Carlesimo, the Nets have been desperately looking for a replacement. They are still going hard for Pacers assistant Brian Shaw, but they aren’t the only team pursuing his services. So far, both Clippers and Nuggets have shown interest for Shaw. Brooklyn also contacted coaching legend Phil Jackson, but as we all know, Jackson isn’t interested in returning to coaching anytime soon.
