Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss died early this morning at the age of seventy nine.Buss had been hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in L.A. for the past few months attributable to Associate in Nursing covert enteral drawback that clothed to be cancer.

NBA UPDATESAs a lifelong Lakers fan, I remember when Jerry bought the Lakers and everyone thought the team was destine for failure. Jerry proved all the non believers wrong. R.I.P Dr. Buss! Thanks for giving L.A. a great basketball dynasty and me a winning team to cheer for consistently. Today the wheels on the Buss may have stopped going round and round but his legacy will live on forever!

In 1979, Buss made history when he bought the Lakers, and he also bought the L.A. Kings and The Forum for $67.5 million — for that time, the largest transaction in sports.

Dr. Jerry Buss’ life goes much deeper than the Lakers. The guy is a poster board for living the American dream.Under his ownership, Buss watched dozens of all-time greats — including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant — win the Lakers 10 NBA Championships. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. He is survived by his six children.

“I don’t even like the Lakers, but this team should use this as motivation, not the nail in the coffin on their season. Give a final ride for Jerry Lakers!” Dave Mattis writes from freesportspicksdaily.com.

“Dr. Jerry Buss was a cornerstone of the Los Angeles sports community and his name will always be synonymous with his beloved Lakers,” Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said. “It was through his stewardship that the Lakers brought ‘Showtime’ basketball and numerous championship rings to this great city. Today we mourn the loss and celebrate the life of a man who helped shape the modern landscape of sports in L.A.”
