NCAAF Picks Week 11 – Auburn Faces One More Tough Test Versus Georgia As Alabama Looms

Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers must have heard all about how powerful the Georgia Bulldogs would be before the season got underway. Heading in to their SEC clash this Saturday, it’s Auburn that is challenging for SEC supremacy while Georgia has fallen well short of expectations. The Bulldogs have won back-to-back NCAAF Picks games after dropping consecutive losses versus Missouri and at Vanderbilt in mid-October, and trail both Missouri and South Carolina in the SEC East while barely hanging on to a spot in the national rankings at No. 25. Meanwhile, No. 7Auburn has won six-straight including a pair of clutch online sports betting victories against Ole Miss and Texas A&M to stay on the heels of Alabama for top spot in the SEC West, and will look to keep the pace with a looming showdown versus the top-ranked Crimson Tide at the end of the month.

The ideal situation for the Tigers has them playing Alabama with the top seed in the SEC West and more up for grabs in their regular season finale. Auburn can’t afford to get caught looking too far ahead to that game and there will be a lot of pressure on them to finish at home against a talented Georgia team, but they have overcome a lot to this point and enter this game with a ton of momentum behind them.

Senior quarterback Aaron Murray has thrown for 2,477 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, including over 500 yards and three scores over the past two weeks. However, the knack on Murray has always been his inability to play at a high level when the spotlight is the brightest, and he struggled in each of the Bulldogs’ three losses this season. Murray threw just three touchdown passes compared to four interceptions in those three defeats, and this could be his final opportunity to prove he can win a reasonably big game. It certainly hasn’t helped that the Georgia defense has given up an average of 37 points in those three losses, but this team’s identity is built around its supposedly high-powered offense and Murray needs to be held accountable for his role in big games.

The Tigers’ offense has certainly been on a roll since its only loss of the year at LSU in late September, scoring 30 or more points in its six-straight wins including 55 at Tennessee last week. Junior quarterback Nick Marshall hasn’t been overburdened thanks to the third-ranked rushing attack in the country, although he has been a steady contributor on the ground with an average of 7.1 yards per carry for 734 and seven scores this season. Junior running back Tre Mason has led the assault with an average of 5.7 yards per carry for 1,038 and 16 touchdowns on the year, and Malzahn will surely give the Bulldogs’ defense a steady dose of the run to control the clock and possession battle. The Auburn’s defense has done just enough to win a couple of close games including a 45-41 win at Texas A&M back in mid-October, and credit is due to a unit that ranks 22nd in the nation with an average of just 20.4 points per game.

Rewind a couple of months back and it was Georgia that was supposed to be ready to challenge for an SEC Championship while the Tigers was supposed to be in rebuild mode. The online betting results certainly haven’t played out that way, and now it’s Auburn with the chance to set up a potential clash with Alabama to decide the fate of the SEC title game from the West division. The Tigers have overcome the odds all year to get to this point, so don’t expect them to suddenly slip against a Bulldogs’ team that has consistently stumbled on the biggest stage. NCAAF Picks: Auburn Tigers – 4.
