NFL Odds – Oakland Raiders NFL Futures Betting

We’ve entered the part of the NFL offseason when Oakland Raiders players get to show off at OTAs and minicamps, and some of them look good enough that the message being sent out via the media is overly optimistic. The effect is even greater following the rookies-only minicamps, as the top prospects are going against players that may not even be on any team by the fall. So, we need to adjust our receptors in light of this reality, but it appears that Oakland Raiders fourth-round pick Tyler Wilson may make a legitimate case for himself as the club’s starting QB this season.

NFL Odds - Oakland Raiders NFL Futures Betting “As far as rookies go, quarterback Tyler Wilson looked nothing of the sort Saturday as he displayed the poise and skills of a seasoned veteran in only his second practice as a member of the Raiders,” Steve Corkran of the Bay Area News Group writes. “Wilson showed off a strong arm, placing balls right on target time and again, be it swing passes, throws over the middle or well downfield. … Wilson arrived as a fourth-round draft pick out of Arkansas, with a reputation for being a bright guy, confident in his abilities and ready to take on any challenge. It’s not a stretch to envision Wilson playing well enough to surge past presumptive starter Matt Flynn and third-year player Terrelle Pryor at some point.”

“Not again,” Flynn might be thinking.

Of course, there’s a world of difference between lining up against fellow rookies and facing veteran competition. But Wilson did play against college football’s elite competition in the SEC, so his preparation is better than that of some other rookies. Furthermore, neither of the two veterans ahead of him have much of a resume at this level, so the door would seem to be wide open; after all, up until the Raiders made their first-round pick last month, there was talk that they’d be taking Geno Smith in Round 1, and that he’d be vying for the starting gig right out of the gate. In Wilson, it appears they’ve found a player that can potentially do the same.
