NFL Picks Week 3 – Winless Redskins Look To Get On Track Versus Visiting Lions This Sunday

The Washington Redskins lost 6 of their first 9 NFL Picks games a year ago, but rallied to win seven-straight following their bye week and clinch an NFC East title and playoff spot. It’s safe to say an 0-2 start won’t hurt their resolve, especially with a favorable schedule leading up their week five bye. Washington will host the Detroit Lions on Sunday before heading on the road to take on the Oakland Raiders the following week, and will likely be the online sports betting favorite in both games. The Redskins need to avoid falling in to any deeper of a hole before their week off, but will need a faster start to avoid another home loss.

NFL Sportsbook Line: Washington – 1.5

Washington has been outscored a combined 50-7 in the first two quarters of each of their two NFL Picks games, and Robert Griffin III has taken the brunt of the responsibility for the slow starts. RGIII promised to be better moving forward, but he will be facing an aggressive Lions’ defense that will not hesitate to get after him with some big hits in the pocket.

NFL Betting Preview: Detroit Lions – The Detroit defense held Adrian Peterson to just 15 yards on his final 17 attempts in a week-one win over the Minnesota Vikings, and then held the Arizona Cardinals to 87-rushing yards in a 25-21 loss last Sunday. The front-seven is led by a very talented, aggressive defensive line that makes a ton of big plays, and they will look to shut down Alfred Morris and the Redskins’ rushing attack in order to force RGIII to beat them with his arm. The Lions’ offense should have running back Reggie Bush back after he injured his knee in last week’s loss, and his return will provide a huge spark. Calvin Johnson went off with six catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s loss, and quarterback Matt Stafford will be looking for him early and often this Sunday.

NFL Betting Preview: Washington Redskins – For all of the talk about RGIII and the Washington offense, the defense really does need to step up in week three after being torched in each of their first two losses. Getting burned by Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles’ up-tempo offense was one thing, but the Redskins actually fared worse in week two when they gave up 580 total yards and 38 points to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in an 18-point loss. Morris averaged 8.2 yards per carry rushing for 107 yards on an average of 8.2 per carry last week, and could be in line for an even bigger week if Washington isn’t struggling to keep up. Ultimately, it will be on RGIII to step up with a big performance, and the offensive line will need to keep him protected in the pocket in order to keep him upright and focused on finding the open man downfield.

NFL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick -There has been plenty of sports betting talk about how the Redskins have handled RGIII and whether or not they have made the right decisions, and it could get worse before it gets better. There is no telling how Griffin will fare against this aggressive Detroit line, and that could put him at risk of injury. The Lions’ offense is that much more dangerous with Bush in the lineup, and the Washington defense has done little to make anyone think they are capable of stopping Megatron and company this weekend. NFL Picks Week 3: Detroit Lions + 2.5.
