NFL Week 1 Pick Against the Spread – Patriots Ready For Kickoff 2013 At Buffalo Following Dramatic Offseason

The New England Patriots dealt with as much or more adversity than any other NFL team this past offseason. They are still more prepared to be a contender in the AFC than the Buffalo Bills at this point thanks to one constant that has kept them at or near the top of the NFL ladder for more than a decade now. The tandem of quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick has been together for nine AFC East titles, five AFC championships, and three Super Bowl rings over the past 11 years, and are looking to kick off the 2013 NFL season on a positive online sports betting note against the Bills in week one.

Change has been a constant theme in Buffalo during Brady and Belichick’s reign in New England, and that will be the case again this year with a first-year head coach in Doug Marrone and a rookie quarterback in EJ Manuel. Manuel may not start week one because of an injury though, which could force Marrone to start undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel or veteran journeyman Matt Leinart against the Patriots.

NFL Betting Preview: New England Patriots – Brady has done a better job than any other elite quarterback when it comes to adjusting to the talent around him, putting up Pro Bowl numbers regardless of who he is throwing to. That will have to be the case again this year if New England is going to succeed, as Brady will be without Wes Welker, Deion Branch, Brandon Lloyd, and Aaron Hernandez from last year’s offense. Instead it will be Danny Amendola, second-round pick Aaron Dobson, and undrafted rookies Kenbrell Thompkins and Zach Sudfeld filling those spots, with Rob Gronkowski back just in time for the opener. The Patriots’ defense is expected to take another price per head step forward with the entire core from last year’s group back, and there will be an emphasis on improving against the pass.

NFL Betting Preview: Buffalo Bills -That might not be much of a concern if New England is lining up opposite Tuel or Leinart, as neither of those passers will scare many opposing defenses. The Bills do have one of the top running back tandems in the NFL in CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson, but the strength of the Patriots’ defense is defending the run. The Buffalo defense was torched through the air in last year’s home loss to New England, and they will face an underrated offense with so many live betting unknowns about this year’s Patriots’ offense thanks to the ridiculous turnover.

NFL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick – The Bills are considered to be a work in progress under Marrone, and it doesn’t help that they are matched up against one of the toughest teams in the AFC with the top two quarterbacks on their depth chart potentially out for week one. Even after going to last year’s AFC Championship game the Patriots are playing with something to prove, and 9.5-points shouldn’t be too hard to cover with injuries hurting Buffalo’s chances at home.
