NFL Week 2 Picks & Betting Odds – Brees, Saints Head To Tampa Bay For Second NFC South Showdown In As Many Weeks

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints began their season of redemption with a 23-17 comeback-win over the Atlanta Falcons in week one. Now they head on the road to face their second NFC South rival in as many weeks. The Saints overcame a 10-0 lead en route to their online sports betting win over the defending NFC South champion Falcons, but it won’t get any easier on the road in week two against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa Bay let a late lead slip away on a last-second field goal to lose 18-17 to the New York Jets, and will be playing with a sense of urgency as they look to avoid a 0-2 NFL Picks start to the season.

NFL Sportsbook Reviews Line: New Orleans – 3.5

The Buccaneers were in position to open the year with a win at New York before a late personal foul call on linebacker LaVonte David for a hit out of bounds on rookie quarterback Geno Smith cost them 15 yards and set up the game-winning field goal. Now Tampa Bay returns home to face a Saints’ team determined to put up some big numbers, with head coach Sean Payton back calling plays following a one-year suspension.

NFL Betting Preview: New Orleans Saints

It wasn’t until the second quarter that the New Orleans offense began to click, but once it got going the Saints outscored Atlanta 23-7 on the way to a big win at home. Brees completed 74-percent of his passes for 357 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and could get even better as the year progresses and he continues to build chemistry with young receivers like Nick Toon and rookie Kenny Stills. Perhaps just as impressive was the way the defense stepped up in week one to shut down a talented Falcons’ offense in the second half under new coordinator Rob Ryan, including a red zone stand that included a Roman Harper interception to seal the price per head win.

NFL Betting Preview: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Josh Freeman and company will have looked at the tape to see what this Saints’ defense looks like under Ryan, and are coming off a tough week in which they managed just 250 total yards against the Jets. Second-year running back Doug Martin was held to 65 yards on 24 carries, while Freeman completed just 48.4-percent of his passes with Vincent Jackson accounting for 154 of his 210 passing yards. The Buccaneers’ defense held up well in week one before that late penalty cost them the live betting result, and it will be interesting to see how this revamped secondary fares after adding cornerback Darrelle Revis and safety Dashon Goldson in the offseason to help slow down some of the powerful passing games they will face in the talented NFC South.

NFL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

There were a lot of things that went wrong for Tampa Bay in week one and they still nearly pulled out the win on the road at New York. Now they return to face a talented Saints’ team that pulled out a comeback win over another NFC South rival in dramatic fashion, but could be in tough keeping the intensity at that level for two weeks in a row. The Buccaneers will have the home advantage for this week’s game  and don’t want to fall to 0-2, so look for them to at least keep this contest close and cover the number.
