Odds to win the 2014 NFC North Division – Plenty Of Drama On The Way As Rest Of NFC North Continues To Chase Packers

NFC North representatives have won only a single playoff game since the Green Bay Packers went on their 2010 Super Bowl run, but there are plenty of reasons to think that will change in 2013. The NFC North is absolutely stacked with the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions both looking to challenge for a playoff spot after the Packers and Minnesota Vikings went to the postseason a year ago, and while it’s no surprise that the Green Bay Packers are the favorites according to the sites listed on the sportsbook reviews, the reality is that any one of these four teams could win the division.

Odds to win the 2014 NFC North DivisionGreen Bay Packers – 163 to win NFC North

The same Packers’ team that went 21-1 from week 16 of the 2010 regular season through week 17 of the 2011 regular season is just 12-7 since, and there are questions about what it will take for Green Bay to get back on track. Part of the problem was Aaron Rodgers being far too tentative a year ago, and he will need to make decisions quicker and keep the offense moving vertically in order to keep opposing defenses off balance. The loss of Greg Jennings won’t help, but Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and Jermichael Finley are all back and the team addressed its running back situation by drafting Eddie Lacy in the second round. The Packers’ defense will need to be better after being torched time and again a live betting year ago, and part of the improvement will come from better possession numbers.

Chicago Bears + 375 to win NFC North

The Bears were on pace to make the playoffs before losses to Seattle, Minnesota, and Green Bay left them at 10-6 and on the outside looking in a year ago. This season will be about redemption, and it begins with new coach Marc Trestman looking to maximize his talent on the offensive side of the ball. Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall have an excellent connection, and Trestman will find ways to incorporate Devin Hester and company in to getting more touches on the offense. Defensive end Julius Peppers, linebacker Lance Briggs, and cornerback Charles Tillman are all back, but this will be the first time in more than a price per head decade that Brian Urlacher does not line up on the Chicago defense.

Detroit Lions + 550 to win NFC North

The Lions are looking to put an absolutely disastrous season behind them, and an explosive offense will lead the way. Quarterback Matt Stafford, wide receiver Calvin Johnson, and running back Reggie Bush is an excellent trio that is capable of putting up big numbers, and they will need to do exactly that in order to make up for shortcomings on the defensive side of the ball. Detroit is a long shot to win the division, but if Stafford and Johnson can put together another incredible season and the defense shows even marginal improvement, the postseason will be a realistic expectation for the Lions.

Minnesota Vikings + 600 to win NFC North

Running back Adrian Peterson came within potentially one more quarter of setting the all-time NFL rushing record, and he could challenge the mark again in 2013. The Vikings will need Peterson to be at his best, while the addition of Greg Jennings and first-round pick Cordarrelle Patterson is expected to help quarterback Christian Ponder provide the offense with more balance. The Vikings’ defense came up big in some crucial games late last year and should be able to at least match last year’s numbers when they finished 14th in total defense. Minnesota is still a sports betting long shot to win the NFC North, but anything is possible with Peterson healthy.
