Preakness Picks 2013 – Departing Projecting As Excellent New Shooter Pick

One of the hardest price per head aspects to break down in terms of the upcoming Preakness Stakes is the element of the unknown. When it comes to what to expect, there is one horse in particular that has kept the experts guessing. The horse named Departing has been talked about a lot in recent weeks, and is listed right there among the favorites to win the race at 6/1 odds. Departing earned its way in to the Preakness Stakes with a strong start to his season, and the fact that it didn’t run in the Kentucky Derby is being regarded as more of an advantage than disadvantage. The element of the unknown has come in to play with Departing, and it has all of the makings of a classic upset runner.

Preakness Picks Departing is one of a number of horses that trained at the Fair Grounds, and while several notable horses did well in the Derby, trainer Al Stall told reporters he has no regrets about skipping the race. Not entering his horse in to the race at Churchill Downs means that Departing will have fresh legs heading in to the Preakness Stakes, and that could make the difference in a big sports betting win. The brutal conditions at the track undoubtedly played a role in Stall being satisfied with his decision, as Departing did not have to run in the tough, muddy conditions that the other horses fought through in the Derby. Fresh legs isn’t the only thing that is expected to benefit Departing either, as this horse appears primed to succeed in this race.

Owned and bred by Claiborne Farm, Departing has been groomed to compete in this race in particular, and that will be an advantage it holds over all of the other entries that ran in the Derby. The decision to hold Departing back from the Derby came only after a third-place finish in the Louisiana Derby, the first time in five-career races that this horse did not win. That is reason enough to consider this horse a prime live betting pick to score the upset win, especially considering that nobody knows what to expect heading in to the race.

It isn’t like the third-place finish is something to be down on either, and the shorter distance the horse will run in the Preakness Stakes projects favorably for this horse. Stall was impressed with what he saw from Orb at the Kentucky Derby, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t confident in his horse heading in to this sportsbook reviews weekend. Orb will be the favorite at this weekend’s race, but for those interesting in betting on the “new shooter” it makes a lot of sense to bet on Departing and hope that Stall’s strategy will pay off with an upset win.
