In college football, the arrival of rivalry games ensures that the summer season is practically over, which means that teams are playing for division championships… and sometimes a great deal more on Rivalry Week.

Rivalry Week

Alabama remains No. 1 team in College Football Playoff rankings

Auburn Tigers @ Alabama Crimson Tide – Saturday, November 29 – This is the biggest and most critical rivalry game in college football during a given year, and Saturday’s latest renewal of what’s called the Iron Bowl doesn’t disappoint. The Alabama Crimson Tide know that when they win this game, they will win the SEC West. Even when Mississippi State beats Ole Miss earlier in the afternoon, Alabama still controls its fate. If the Tide beat their archrival from Auburn, they win the West and proceed to play either Georgia or Missouri in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome on Dec. 6. If Alabama gets to and wins that game, it would be in the College Football Playoff. First things first, though: Alabama has to deal with Auburn, the team it may not beat this past year in an exceedingly similar set of circumstances. Playing at home this year and being motivated by revenge, the Tide should manage to get the job done. College Football WEEK 14 PICKS: Alabama -9.5.

Pittsburgh Panthers @ Miami Hurricanes – Saturday, November 29 -When Miami almost beat Florida State a few weeks ago, it seemed that the Hurricanes were prepared to play better football and become more just like the team many people expected when head coach Al Golden came to the college a couple of years ago. However, Miami then stubbed its toe at Virginia a week ago in an exceedingly pathetic and limp effort. Miami is playing to truly save face in this game, and while Pittsburgh is playing for a dish, you know the Miami coaches will get on the players and inform them how important it is to complete the summer season on a high note. If this game was in Pittsburgh, the Panthers may have gotten the edge, in Miami, the Hurricanes should win. Rivalry Week Picks: Miami

Oregon Ducks @ Oregon State Beavers – Saturday, November 29 -This can be a rivalry game by which Oregon usually wins… but Oregon State usually pushes the Ducks hard. This past year, Oregon State made an enormous fourth-quarter rally to take a lead, but Oregon scrambled back again to win at the end. This season, Oregon has a team that’s even a lot better than last year’s edition, but Oregon State gets the overall game in its stadium. This will get dicey, but Oregon quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Mariota is unlikely to let his team lose in this situation. This is the best reason to pick Oregon here. College Football Picks: Oregon -20

Utah State Aggies @ Boise State Broncos – Saturday, November 29 Boise State is a hard team to beat at home, nevertheless the Broncos did fall behind San Diego State by 20 at home a few weeks ago. Utah State is a better and tougher team than San Diego State, so even though Boise State blew out Wyoming a week ago, the Broncos come in for a hardcore game. Utah State includes a solid defensive line that may contain Boise State’s running game and force the Broncos to throw. The Aggies have the tough line play that may make Boise State’s offense sputter. Take Utah State on the road. Rivalry Week Picks: Utah State +8.5
