Thursday Night College Football Week 6 Picks – 12th-Ranked Bruins Look To Roll Through Utah In PAC-12 Opener

The No. 12 UCLA Bruins are undefeated with three-straight wins heading in to their first PAC-12 contest. Jim Mora and his team understand there is still a tough road ahead. Mora and the Bruins will arrive at Salt Lake City looking to hand the Utah Utes their second loss in as many conference games following an overtime defeat at the hands of Oregon State two weeks ago. UCLA is averaging 52.7 points per game through its first three online sports betting contests, the third-best average in the nation.

#12 UCLA Bruins @ Utah Utes
Thursday October 3, 2013 – 10:00 PM ET
Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, Utah
College Football Sports Betting Line: UCLA – 3.5

The Utes bounced back from the loss to the Beavers with a close win at BYU last week, and their own balanced offense ranks 20th in the nation with an average of 42 points per game. Utah will need to slow down the Bruins’ offense in order to give its own a chance to win, and the home advantage wasn’t enough to make them the favorites to win.

That UCLA offense put up 692 total yards in its win over New Mexico State last week, with sophomore Brett Hundley throwing for 280 yards and three touchdowns. Hundley wasn’t perfect though, as he threw two interceptions and now has three on the year. Jordon James continues to tear it up as he ran for 164 yards and two scores, and he now has four scores on the season. The Bruins’ offense can pound the ball inside and then beat opposing defenses over the top, and that has caused problems for all three opponents they have faced to this point. 16 different players caught a pass against New Mexico State, and if they match that number this week the Utes will have a tough time hanging in there.

Utah has shown a strong balance on offense as well and while they may not be as explosive as UCLA, they do have some weapons. Sophomore quarterback Travis Wilson has already thrown for over 1,100 yards and nine scores, and he posted his best completion percentage of the season with two touchdowns and no turnovers against BYU in the bounce back win last week. That included seven-straight completions on the touchdown drive that sealed it for the Utes last week, ending with a toss to Karl Williams for a score that made it 20-6 and put the game out of reach.

The Bruins are on a roll entering their first PAC-12 game and there is no reason to think the offense will slow down given the 51 points that Oregon State put up here just two weeks ago. Utah’s offense will keep them in it for a while, but unlike in the online betting loss to the Beavers there will be no overtime in this one as UCLA eventually pulls away. Thursday Night College Football Week 6 Picks: UCLA Bruins – 3.5.
