More Mixed Martial Arts action is coming this Saturday, April 27th when UFC 159: “Jones vs. Sonnen” takes down the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. After three consecutive events held this April (UFC on Fuel TV: Mousasi vs. Latifi, The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen Finale and UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Melendez), Middleweight title challenger Chael Sonnen and undisputed Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones will return to the Octagon in the UFC 159 main event. The two fighters will be joined in the main card by 185-pound contenders Michael Bisping and Alan Belcher, as well as Heavyweight fighters Roy Nelson and Cheick Kongo. The main card is round up by a light Heavyweight match featuring Phil Davis vs. Vinny Magalhaes and a Lightweight bout presenting Jim Miller vs. Pat Healy.

Mixed Martial ArtsAt only 25 years old, Jones is already the top Middleweight fighter in the UFC. Since his debut at UFC 87 on Aug. 9, 2008, reigning light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (17-1) jumped to the top positions in the UFC ranks and quickly evolved into one of the most successful and fierce fighters in UFC history.

Currently ranked as the No.1 light heavyweight fighter in the world and No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world (behind middleweight champion Anderson Silva) Jones holds more records than any other fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Jones is not only the youngest champion in UFC history (beating Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for the title at UFC 128 when he was 23 years old), he’s also the youngest fighter to defend a championship belt, retaining the title against “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 135 when he was 24 years-old.

Jones’ eight-fight UFC win-streak is tied with Lyoto Machida for the longest in light heavyweight history. He also holds the record for most submission victories in light heavyweight history with five, as well as five career wins over fighters who once held an undisputed UFC championship belt, the most of any active fighter in UFC.

In addition, Jones is one of two current UFC champions (Ronda Rousey) to have never lost by knockout, submission or decision and the only UFC fighter to ever finish top-10 light heavyweight fighters Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader by submission, and former champ Mauricio Rua with strikes.

With a record of 27 wins (7 by K.O, 4 by Submission and 16 by decision), 12 losses and 1 draw, Chael Sonnen is ranked the #2 middleweight in the world by Sherdog, The former Division I All-American wrestler at the University of Oregon and silver medalist at the 2000 Greco-Roman World University Championships made his UFC debut in a light heavyweight bout against former IFC Light Heavyweight Champion Renato Sobral at UFC 55, winning the fight with a second-round triangle choke. After moving to Bodog Fight and getting a spot in the World Extreme Cagefighting, Sonnen returned to the UFC, winning three fights by unanimous decision (Dan Miller at UFC 98, Yushin Okami at UFC 104, and Nate Marquardt at UFC 110) and becoming the number one contender for the UFC Middleweight Championship.

Sonnen faced champ Anderson Silva at UFC 117 on August 7, 2010. Heading into the fifth round, Sonnen led on the judges’ scorecards (40–34, 40–35, and 40-36), but heading into the final round, Silva caught Sonnen in a choke and made him tap out.
