Former WEC champion Urijah Faber has yet to prove his self ready to challenge for a UFC title. Now he will have to get through a legitimate obstacle in Yuri Alcantara. Faber and Alcantara are scheduled to clash at this weekend’s UFC Fight Nigh 26 event at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The UFC has done an excellent job creating a sportsbook reviews card worth tuning in for as it moves to Fox Sports 1, and Faber is among the biggest names on it as he and Alcantara both look to take a major step forward in the UFC bantamweight division.

UFC Fight Night 26 UFC Fight Night 26

(28-6-0) Urijah Faber vs. Yuri Alcantara (28-4-0)

Saturday August 17, 2013

TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts

UFC Price Per Head Line: Faber – 180

Alcantara made his bantamweight debut with a no contest against Pedro Nobre, then obliterated Illiarde Santos with a first-round TKO win back in May. The move in weight class seems to have really paid off for Alcantara, with Faber representing another big step on the potential road to a title shot.

UFC Betting Preview: Urijah Faber

There is a ton of live betting pressure on both fighters to show up in a major way, but Faber is facing the reality of a loss meaning he will likely never get another title shot. Faber has built his resume back up with consecutive wins over Ivan Menjivar and Scott Jorgensen, submitting each of them with the rear-naked choke to put his self back on the map in the bantamweight division. 16 of his 26-career wins have come via submission, so it won’t be a surprise if Faber is very patient and tries to pick his spots looking for an opening against Alcantara.

UFC Betting Preview: Yuri Alcantara

Alcantara has only ever lost once via submission, but then again he only has four-career losses on his resume. This will easily be the toughest test for Alcantara so far, and it will be interesting to see how he handle his self against the more experience fighter in Faber. Alcantara has plenty of power and should be able to hold his own standing up against Faber, and that could be the sports betting key as he tries to stay on his feet and avoid letting Faber take control on the ground.

UFC Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

Alcantara has looked good in each of his two fights at the bantamweight level despite the one no contest, and is ready to take the next step. He should be able to hold his own against Faber, but the longer this fight goes on the more likely it is he could be exposed to the submission game. This will be an excellent experience for Alcantara in the long run and really help his progression, but Faber is fighting to keep his championship aspirations alive and that sense of urgency he faces will help make the difference in earning a win.
